POLICE COMMISIONER ROOTING OUT THE BAD APPLES

Police Commissioner Shanta Knowles said that once completed, investigations into
alleged corrupt law enforcement officers, will determine if such officers are placed
before an arbitration board or a jury.
The commissioner’s comments came at a press conference on Monday at the Paul
Farquharson Centre when asked about additional officers that were charged in
connection with the armored truck heist in November 2023.
“We continue to investigate that matter and communicate with the Department of
Public Prosecution. We have put four other officers before the courts and we are
looking at two other officers or at least looking at the evidence to determine if
there is sufficient for us to place those officers before the courts or before our
tribunal”, she said.
Considering the amount of police officers that were allegedly involved in criminal
activity, from aiding and abetting murders, conspiracy to bring illegal drugs into
the country, and allegedly hiring henchmen to unalive a person(s) this has left a lot
of room for speculation.
Several Bahamians have voiced their concern about police involved killings,
however Commissioner Knowles said that there is no evidence to support these
accusations.
“Nothing in our investigations of homicides or murders that occurred in 2024
suggest that police are involved, she said.
“If members of the public had direct information that can assist with those
investigations, please bring it forward. We are not afraid to deal with our own as
you can see, we have put officers before the court in connection with the heist. If
we find officers wanting in any murder case, we certainly will look for the
evidence and out them before the courts”.
There are five officers awaiting trial for their alleged involvement in criminal
activity. The following include Police Constable Kevin Greenslade, Constable
Robert Young, Constable Samuel Ferguson, Former Police Officer Shando King,

and Corporal Donald Wright. More than half of these officers did not show up for
their hearing and currently there are warrants out for their arrests.
Commissioner of Police Shanta Knowles, along with several other RBPF officials
continue to urge the public to contact the Criminal Investigation Department at
502-9991/2 if they have information linked to an open investigation. The
information will remain confidential and can help with investigations.
