Twenty deserving students received full scholarships from the Island Luck Web Café to attend Success Training College.
The students – 18 females and two males – collectively received $250,000 worth of scholarships during an awards ceremony on Wednesday.
President of Success Carlton Neymour said the donation will go a long way in helping the students earn a college degree.
“Island Luck has always been a major supporter of our institution and our students,” he said.
“They must understand that this gift they are giving to the students will go a very long way. They aren’t just providing the support necessary to prepare these individuals for careers in business, computers, education and allied health. But they are making a meaningful contribution towards national development.”
Accounting Manager for Island Luck Aaliyah Sands said the donation is just one of the many ways the company gives back to the community.
“We do this every year and are so excited that we’re able to invest in the education of these young people,” she said.
“We’re pleased to be able to assist them with their college education, which is the first step to preparing themselves for entry or even advancement in a competitive workforce. I just want to encourage them to remain focused in their studies and continue to work hard.”
Omri Kelly, a Computer Information Systems major and one of two males to receive a full scholarship, said he is extremely grateful as he never expected to one day receive a full scholarship to pursue a tertiary education.
“This means so much to me,” he said.
“I really want to thank Island Luck for the opportunity that not much young men get to receive nowadays. I plan to use the scholarship and one day go abroad. At the end of the day I want to return home and help The Bahamas.”
Success was established in 1992 and is the oldest private college in the country. Graduates from the institution have gone on to study at McGill, McMaster and Penn State Universities to name a few.
