In the wake of the withdrawal from the Free National Movement (FNM) by the
Member of Parliament for Central Grand Bahama Iram Lewis who then joined the
Coalition of Independents on Wednesday the FNM’s St. Anne’s MP Adrian White
was asked by reporters outside the House to speak on the matter of FNM leader
Michael Pintard allegedly informing former Prime Minister, Dr. Hubert Minnis,
that he will not be renominated in the Killarney Constituency.
Mr. White was asked what would be said to Dr. Minnis if he openly says that he
wants to be renominated.
“We all want to stay in top positions as long as we can, but when you’ve done the
job as well as Dr. Minnis has, a great part of legacy is ensuring that young leaders
come in behind them. We can’t be dependent on one person in a country of so
many, and I congratulate him on all of his work as our Prime Minister and Former
Prime Minister,” he said. “Michael C. Pintard, will take us to the next election.
I’m confident that with the support of the people, we’ll win the next election for
the Free National Movement, and really, for the country.” Mr. White said.
People also questioned what role Dr. Minnis will play in the Free National
Movement going forward if he will no longer be representing the Killarney
Constituency.
White continued, “it should be a senior statesman role. It should be a role that he
finds purposeful for his desires and necessary for what the country needs. We,
however, have a leader in Michael C. Pintard that’s going to lead the party into the
next election, and I expect into the next two terms,” he said. “We obviously have
interest from members of the public in our Deputy Leader as well, so there is long
term leadership planning within the Free National Movement, and I’m optimistic
about the direction our country will go in.”
Mr. White said he is not choosing sides, and has respect for Free National
Movement leader, Michael Pintard, as well as former Prime Minister, Dr. Hubert
Minnis. “I am fully in support of our chairman, our leader, and I owe so much, and
we’ll always be loyal to the former Prime Minister, Dr. Hubert Minnis.”
