PM: “Stop Giving Bahamians The Run Around”

The Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) has let it be known that they would like to
have a second consecutive term in government to complete the many projects that
they have started, and this week Prime Minister Philip Davis placed public service
workers on notice that he will not allow their inability or willingness to carry out
their jobs hinder that goal by stifling the nation’s progress.
The Prime Minister was addressing more than 1,000 members and supporters at the
party’s Eastern Link UP event at the Charles Carter Park on the CW Saunders
Highway that featured the Fox Hill, Elizabeth, Yamacraw and Sea Breeze
constituencies.
Holding nothing back, the Prime Minister delivered a serious no-nonsense message
and warning to all public service workers who are hindering the government and
by extension the nations’ progress.
He said, “Let me say it straight. My administration has to deliver, the Bahamian
people didn’t send us here to look busy; they sent us here to get things done. So if
you are in the public service and you are holding up progress I want you to hear me
loud and clear. Brave say, take them files off them desk and lets deliver for the
people of The Bahamas.
“I am fully prepared to move anyone or send home anyone who isn’t getting the
Bahamian people work done. This government was elected to deliver, not to stall,
not to delay, not to make excuses. I told one fella straight, if you miss the deadline
I want your resignation letter on my desk, and let me tell you, the letter is on my
desk; because we are not here to collect titles we are here to serve, and if you can’t
keep pace with the people’s expectations, then step aside and let someone else
carry the weight,” said Mr. Davis.
Continuing to drive home his message he said, “If a Bahamian is waiting on land
move the file, if a Bahamian is waiting on housing move the file, if a small
business is waiting on support move the file, if there is a project ready to go get it
moving, if there is a decision to be made make it, no excuses, no delays, no
stalling, we owe the people progress not stalled paper work, because we don’t
work for ourselves, we work for the people of The Bahamas and I want the
message to be clear Brave say stop giving the people the run around – deliver.”

Mr. Davis said there are too many times when people walk into government offices
and get the same story to come back next week, wait on the next person, the file is
lost, he said that has to stop and Bahamians must stop getting the run around.
“The small issues shouldn’t have to come to Brave to solve. Bahamians ain’t
asking for special favours they are only asking for fairness, they are asking for
what they are entitled to,” he said.
Before his stern warning the Prime Minister reminded the public service that it is
them who keep the country going. He reminded the public service that his
administration has been treating them with respect and working for them.
“This PLP government didn’t forget you,” he said “We showed up for you, we
cleaned up a mess the FNM left sitting for years, over 1,000 promotion files stuck
ignored collecting dust, we cleared them and made it right, and gave the first
promotional exercise in more than eight years, over 1,100 clerical staff finally got
what they were owed, and that’s $18 million in people pockets, not promises but
pay checks,” said Mr. Davis.
He noted that they did not stop there as his administration promoted over 3,500
public servants in just three years because the PLP doesn’t believe in people
working 15-20 years with no movement.
“We brought in new blood over 2000 young Bahamians under 35; and when it
comes to labour the FNM signed zero agreements, this PLP government we signed
56 labour agreements. So who is for the workers who is for labour,” Davis asked.
The Prime Minister said the accumulative worth of the 56 labour agreements
amounted to over $40 million in the hands of working people, “helping to pay
mortgages, feeding families, sending kids to school and building with dignity. And
we are not done yet; at the end of this month 2400 public servants will see a rise in
their pay, and I September thousands more will follow,” he said.
Mr. Davis went on to once again question Opposition leader Michael Pintards’
qualification to lead the country, pointing out his lack of a track record of
accomplishments in public life and the infighting in the FNM under his leadership.
As the 2026 general elections draws closer, the governing PLP, the Official
Opposition Free National Movement and Coalition of Independents are
undoubtedly gearing up for the election campaign.
