Pintard and Davis Address Public After Recent Surge in Gun Violence

The Bahamas has seen a notable decrease in murders so far in 2025,
with 46 homicides recorded as of mid-July, a 38 percent reduction
compared to the 74 murders reported during the same period in 2024.
However, the violence has not come to a halt. Over the weekend, a man
in his thirties was fatally shot during a late-night incident on Nassau
Street. Just hours later, a mass shooting on Robinson Road left seven
people shot, resulting in two fatalities and five others injured.
Prime Minister Philip Davis is urging national unity and decisive action
following a mass shooting that killed two young men, ages 18 and 20,
and injured five others near Robinson Road and Market Street.
Briefed by the Commissioner of Police, Davis expressed deep concern
over the brazen nature of the attack. While commending law
enforcement’s progress in fighting crime and illegal firearms, he warned
that a small group of violent offenders continues to threaten
communities.
“These are men with no regard for life,” he said. “Innocent people are
being hurt simply for being near their targets.”
The Prime Minister urged families not to shield suspects from police.
“Protecting these individuals only helps them destroy lives,” he warned,
adding that being close to known criminals could prove deadly.
He offered condolences to the victims’ families and reaffirmed the
government’s commitment to a strong police presence. “Our streets
belong to law-abiding Bahamians,” he said. “We will not let violence
dictate how we live.”
Opposition Leader Michael Pintard is urging Bahamians especially
young people not to respond to rising violence with revenge, but with

resolve to break the cycle. He also commented on the incidents the
Prime Minister highlighted.
“Like many people out there, this is personal,” Pintard mentioned that
we all know someone lost to violence or connected to it. But young
people must not seek revenge they must seek ways to stay alive, stay
safe, and stay on the right path.
Speaking candidly, Pintard reflected on his own past, admitting that he
once walked a dangerous road. How he was headed down the wrong
path too, but had people who cared about him and a praying mother who
helped steer him back.
He called on parents, guardians, and relatives to play an active role in
protecting their children from negative influences saying that they must
ensure their young ones are safe and guided.
Pintard also expressed concern over the government’s crime-fighting
efforts, saying he lacks confidence in current policies and legislations.
Offering condolences to the families affected, Pintard called for national
unity and stronger community support to bring lasting change.
Pintard says that he mandates that all those associated develop programs,
whether it’s through public service announcements or mentorships, we
all, must lend a hand in keeping our youth and our streets safe.
