Progress Liberal Party (PLP) Chairman Fred Mitchell made his case asking the
Bahamian voting public to give the Davis administration a rear second consecutive
term in power. His reason, so that they can complete the many projects and
programs they have begun.
He was speaking to hundreds of enthusiastic party members and supporters at their
eastern constituency link with Elizabeth, Yamacraw, Fox hill and Sea Breeze at the
Charles Carter Community Park on the CW Saunders Highway, and viewers on the
live Facebook feed.
“I want to leave you with this,” said Mitchell, “first of all the PLP is for stability.
Secondly, the PLP is against stop review and cancel. Next, I remind you that I
spoke in 2017 and warned people if the FNM took over your jobs would be lost.
People thought I was joking, no one listened, and the day after the election 3,500
people were fired by the FNM.
“Today however, under the PLP we have the lowest unemployment in the history
of this country; so I’m for stable leadership, and tonight we are asking the people
of this country for second consecutive term for the PLP. The poet says we have
promises to keep and miles to go before we sleep,” stated Mitchell.
He said, “The PLP is for stable leadership and has a leader who the people trust
and who feels the plight of the poor that can speak with the rich and powerful on
behalf of the poor. So we are for stability and he needs a second term to continue
his work and get the job done.”
Continuing the PLP Chairman said, “The PLP is for healthcare, the PLP is for
housing. How can you elect a group that in four and a half years built not one
house? So the PLP is the party to get the job done in housing.”
During his contribution to the budget debate the Opposition leader Michael Pintard
said despite efforts by the PLP the FNM has an impressive track record when it
comes to building homes for Bahamians.
He said, “My administration will address the housing problem, we see the
challenge but we also see the opportunity, and we share the view that it has to be a

public private partnership, and the housing solution has to tackle all
demographics.”
According to Mr. Pintard there are more than 12,000 Bahamians seeking home
ownership. He said the PLP’s efforts building homes has been unimpressive with
just 200 homes built in four years.
Pintard also claimed that the state of healthcare under the Davis Administration is
failing and that the FNM would do a better job in healthcare.
Meanwhile, Mitchell, the PLP Member of Parliament for Fox Hill said, “Most
things in the country are going well, but another promise we have to keep, I am for
healthcare and finishing the job of the PLP on National Health Insurance. The PLP
started it we should get the chance to finish the job.”
“Next,” he said, “The PLP is for world peace and not for war, we respect all
nations and we want to work with our neighbors. The PLP is for infrastructure. So
you got the Fresh Creek Bridge, You got the sea wall in West End, the Glass
Window Bridge in Eleuthera, airports in Eleuthera, Long Island, Mayaguana,
Exuma, Bimini and Cat Island, all to be finished by the PLP. So, 2026 we need to
get that second term to finish the job.”
Mitchell reminded that the PLP is also for pension reforms, a liveable wage,
education and training.
As for when the election will be held Mr. Mitchell only said “We’re in the count
down now, no time to look left, no time to look right no time to get distracted,
forward upward onward together and carry on smartly. I am not for contention.
You see the other side they are fighting like cats and dogs, but we are the party of
peace and collaboration, we need that second term to keep this country stable and
on a level playing field.”
Mr. Mitchell ended by telling Bahamians that they have a friend in the PLP.
