Four men, who range from age 16 to 21, were arrested yesterday in connection with the murder of a Jubilee Gardens man.
On Thursday, 22-year-old Sylvestor Woodside of Fire Trail Road was shot in the head on Lignum Vitae Boulevard in Jubilee Gardens.
A man on a motorcycle approached Woodside, who was walking at the time, and shot him.
The victim died on the scene.
On Sunday at 12:40 p.m., officers from the Selective Enforcement Team (SET) and the Drug
Enforcement Unit (DEU) got a tip and went to a home located at Grants Street, Fox Hill, where they arrested the four men for Woodside’s murder.
Woodside’s death came only minutes after police scrambled to another fatal shooting on Minnie Street.
“Shortly before 7:15 p.m., two males went to rob a local establishment. The proprietor was going to his vehicle at the time when he heard screams that someone was being robbed. He had his licenced shotgun in his hand. Meantime, one of the suspects, who was also armed with what we believe is a shotgun, discharged a shot in the proprietor’s direction, he returned fire, fatally wounding one of them,” the CDU chief told reporters on the scene.
At last report, the second suspect remained on the loose.
“We are looking for a young black male, who appears to be somewhere between the ages of 18 to 21 years, smooth complexion, 5”8 tall, about 140 pounds,” said Supt. Kenneth Strachan.
“He was wearing blue jeans, tennis and a red shirt.”
Supt. Rolle meantime appealed to the suspect’s family to turn him in.
“Bring him in so that he can give his account of what took place here,” he said.
“We are not going to stop until we find him and so we are appealing to his family that once he gets home, assist him and let him come in but we will not rest until we find him.”
As for the shooter, police said he was routinely taken in, but has since been released.
