Fifty-thousand dollars worth of narcotics were seized at the Lynden Pindling International Airport (LPIA) on Wednesday after a Nassau man attempted to leave the island for an unknown international destination.
Officers of the Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) said yesterday that the 29-year-old man of Seven Hills Drive, Seven Hills was arrested after he was found in possession of three-and-a-half kilos of suspected cocaine.
The man, whose identity has not yet been released, was arrested inside the Pre-Clearance Lounge in the new international terminal at LPIA around 9:00 a.m. by officers of the Airport Police Station.
The drugs weighed seven pounds and 13 ounces and have an estimated street value of $50,000, police said.
Also confiscated from the suspect was and undisclosed amount of cash believed to be the proceeds from the sale of drugs, police said.
The 29-year-old will face serious drug charges before the end of this week, police said.
Shooting Under Investigation
A 21-year-old man of John Road West is in hospital fighting for his life after he was shot in the back early Wednesday morning.
According to police, the victim was at Fleming Street when he got into an altercation with a man he knew.
The victim was taken to hospital where he is detained in critical condition.
