Two security officers, one of whom is a police reservist, employed by Kerzner International remain in stable but serious condition in the hospital after being shot on Saturday night over Paradise Island.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Elsworth Moss told the Bahama Journal on Sunday that the incident happened just a stone’s throw away from the Carmine’s Restaurant in Marina Village.

"Sometime around 9:30 p.m. [Saturday] two security officers employed by Atlantis were on patrol in the Marina Village area when they confronted two suspicious looking males, one of whom produced a handgun," he said.

"The man with the gun shot one of the security guards multiples times and the other one was shot in the shoulder."

ASP Moss said both security officers were transported to Doctors Hospital where they were examined by doctors and remain in stable condition.

"We do have two males in custody assisting us with our investigations as well," he said.

ASP Moss told the Journal that the two males- ages 17 and 19- could be brought before the courts sometime this week.

He also confirmed that no tourists were hurt during the entire ordeal.

The Journal understands from a reliable source that the incident occurred after the security officers asked the men, who were drinking out of bottles, to place their beverages in cups. However, ASP Moss did not confirm or deny whether that was indeed the cause for the incident.

Police were also busy on Friday investigating two separate incidents- one drug related and the other, a shooting in the inner city.

According to ASP Moss, the first incident took place Friday morning in the Carmichael road area.

"On Friday around 11:06 a.m, officers attached to the Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) were conducting an operation just off Carmichael Road when they observed a male who was armed with a handgun and appeared to be selling what appeared to be drugs to several persons," he told the Bahama Journal on Sunday.

"The officers made an attempt to approach the male who ran. The officers pursued him and he pointed his handgun towards the officers."

ASP Moss said it was at that point when the officers removed their service revolvers and fired hitting the man to the left chest.

"He was eventually taken to the Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) where he was examined by doctors and is detained," he said.

"A .380 pistol containing five live rounds of ammunition was recovered from the scene along with a small amount of drugs and it is expected that as soon as he is released from the hospital he will be charged with possession of a firearm, ammunition and drugs and possession of a firearm with the intent to endanger life of those officers."

The second incident took place later Friday afternoon around 4:16 p.m.

"Police at Control Room received a report that there were two persons shot in the area of Hospital Lane and South Street," ASP Moss said.

"Both were males and one was shot to the face while the other was shot in the leg."

He said that as a result of information received, police learnt that there was an altercation between the two males and another male who was armed with a 12-guage shot gun.

"These persons were taken to the Princess Margaret Hospital, were treated and remain in stable condition," he said.

"The assailant, a 42-year-old male of Hospital Lane- has since been arrested and on arrest was found in possession of a 12-guage shot gun."

ASP Moss said he will be arraigned in court sometime this week.
