Bahamian Author Seeks Local Support

By Kendea Jones
A Bahamian author, whose books have been successful abroad, is now looking for local support.

Anson Stuart, who is the author of Runaway Love and Runaway Love: First Born, said he has been trying to find a way to market his romance novels in The Bahamas because they have both been successful in the United States.

"I would have to say that my earliest public recognition for writing was a Halloween story contest I won while I attended Uriah Mcphee Primary School," said Mr. Stuart, a Nassau native.

"I don’t remember the grade I was in but I do recall the story I wrote and the feeling I had when I walked in the library and saw my name written on the chalkboard as the winner of the contest."

Asked what inspires him to write, Mr. Stuart responded, "Life inspires me to write. I enjoy the art of telling stories and moving people with my words."

He said he feels that his two books are sure to move people.

Runaway Love is a compelling story about Matthew, an architect from The Bahamas who meets Raquel, a beautiful exotic dancer and falls in love with her. Both have past lives that they are trying to escape. In an attempt to run away from their past, the lovers run into each other’s arms.

Runaway Love: First Born is a story about another man named Matthew who is in search of the truth about his past. Unfortunately, his search turns dangerous because of what he uncovers. Matthew meets Jonay, the granddaughter of a very powerful mafia boss. Even though the two are from completely different worlds, they soon find out that they are connected.

Mr. Stuart explained that Runaway Love: First Born is the result of five years of "blood, sweat and tears."

"Blood for the passion with which I write every single line, sweat for the dedication with which I approached the story line and tears for the point when I realized that it was finally ready to be released," he said.

"It will offer the reader a fast pace ride into the lives of characters who are real and touchable. It is definitely unlike any other book of today. It starts off in a time and place, two centuries ago which sets the foundation for the story."

Mr. Stuart said he definitely has plans for another novel very soon.

"The words usually let me know when they are ready to be released. I usually have no say in when that is."

Mr. Stuart is a project architect for an architectural design firm in Miami, Florida.
