The Anglican Chorale under the direction of Ms. Rosemary Hanna held its 2nd Annual Festival of Hymns and Anthems during the Christmas holiday, attracting a sizeable crowd to Christ Church Cathedral, George Street.
Guest organist was British Organist Mr. Matthew Steynor, Director of Music at Trinity Cathedral, Miami, Florida, who is no stranger to The Bahamas. He taught fulltime as the preparatory school music teacher at St. John’s College and served as Assistant Organist at Christ Church Cathedral. Well known Bahamian organist, Mr. Edward Cox, organist at St. Gregory’s Anglican Church was the Assistant Organist.
The ninety-minute concert was also recorded for television, included many of the favourite hymns of the Church. All Hail The Power Of Jesus Name, The Church Is One Foundation, For The Beauty Of The Earth, Glorious Of Thee Are Spoken and There Is Joy In Heaven were among this year’s repertoire. The Chorale also performed a special piece entitled Jesus The Saviour Crucified, written and conducted by Mrs. Darville "Sonny" Walkine. The congregation also joined in several of the items, and Matthew Steynor played two organ interludes.
The event was free and an offering was taken in support of the Chorale’s music ministry.
