The 2009/2010 Youth Baseball season in Long Island got underway on Saturday October 17th with two games in the Coach Pitch Division. The 2009/2010 Youth Baseball season in Long Island got underway on Saturday October 17th with two games in the Coach Pitch Division. In the opening game the L.I. Petroleum Oilers defeated the Hardings Supply Centre Razorbacks in a nail biter 7-6. In game two the Scotia Bank Sluggers man-handled the Chamcem Boats V-Hulls 30-1. The league that is expected to re-introduce its 12 and under division by the end of January 2010, will continue with play this weekend with games scheduled for 1pm and 3pm. While officially opening the league, incumbent President of The Bahamas Baseball Federation (BBF) Criag Kemp and his executive team congratulated the Long Island Baseball League executive team on a “successful opening and for successfully rejuvenating the baseball program on Long Island”. Kemp said Dan Weightman, president of the Long Island league and his team has done a "tremendous job," and with Island-wide support, they are off to a "great start." Keith Fox is Vice President and Raquel Knowles is Secretary and Treasurer of the Long Island league. BBF Secretary General Theodore Sweeting and JBLN Coach Pastor Ken Adderley a former professional baseball player were also present for the opening games.
