Martinborough Leads Bahamians At Sunfish Worlds, American Loring Is Overall Leader

Exciting sailing action from the Pictet Bank 2009 Sunfish World Championships hosted by the Nassau Yacht Club in Montague Beach New Providence, Bahamas.
The 2009 edition of the Pictet Bank and Trust Sunfish World Championships hosted by the Nassau Yacht Club at Montagu Beach will continue today with 72 sailors competing for the coveted title of World Champion.

Going into competition On Thursday after five races former three-time champion Donnie Martinborough was in 14th place and led all Bahamians in the fleet.
 American David Loring was the point leader, followed by Marx Chirinos from Venezuela second and Paul Jon-Patin from the U.S. third. 
After Martinborough, Charles Kelley was in 20th place for The Bahamas, William Sands was 34th Jeff Gale was 35th, followed by Andrew Wilhoyte 38th. 
Also for The Bahamas veteran Jimmy Lowe who represented The Bahamas at the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio De’ Jeneiro,  Brazil and the 2005 Central American and Caribbean Games in Columbia in 2005 was sitting in 42nd position, just ahead of George Damianos who was 43rd.
After earning a right to compete with the seniors, Bahamian junior sailors were holding their own in the field of 72. Donico Brown and Michael Holowesko were 53rd and 54th respectively.
The top female for The Bahamas was Lori Lowe who also competed at the 2007 Pan American Games. She was ranked 65th after five races. 
After Friday's competition and eight races in the books, Martinborough still led the Bahamians but had fallen to 16th while Kelley fell to 24th and Fernando De'Cardenas was 28th. Sands dropped one spot to 34th. Loring, Chirinos and Patin still hold the top three spots.
