July 16th, 2009 'Big Blue' Challenges You To 'King Of The Tyre Throw' CompetitionIf you are one of those people that can fit a cool $225 into you wallet or purse, then you may just be interested in the first ever 'King Of The Tyre Throw' competition hosted by local power lifter and fitness trainer Delvin 'Big Blue' Scott. The competition will take place on Saturday July 25th from 11am to 4pm at the Cycling Track opposite Government High School in the Queen Elizaabeth Sports Centre. On Wednesday Scott who is an advocate for a drug free society explained the rules of the competition. "There will be two categories, one for children and one for adults; the childrens tyre will weight five pounds and the tyre the adults will throw will weigh seven pounds," he said. "We decided on five pounds and seven pounds because we don't know how far the competitors will actually throw the tyre and we want to make it fun and exciting so that not only the weight lifters or bodybuilders are able to throw. So in each category we will have a new record set this year, and when we host the event again, we will added a heavier tyre if we need to," he said. ""The good thing about it is that there is not only a cash prize for the winner, but second place will earn $150 and third place will earn $125. "I came up with the idea by simply brain storming on something Bahamians can do to have fun and I hope this becomes a fun hobby for us in The Bahamas. You don't need to go to the gym, you don't need to get fit, you can go to any junk yard or tyre shop and get an old tyre, practice, and have some fun," he said. In addition to the tyre throwing competition there will be lots of food, drinks, music and other games that children and adults can engage in for the entire family, including face painting, hoopla, bouncing castle as well as gate prizes. For registration you can simply show up to the track on the day of the competition with your friends, or call 456-2050, 502-0702 or 326-2177.
